Coloud Headphones Will Rock Your World

Coloud Headphones

Most of us would be happy with a standard pair of headphones, but then again an out-of-the-box standard issue pair might not be up to par with what discerning ears are willing to settle for. Nice to know that there are after market headphones out there which are capable of filling in the gap, and the Coloud Colors headphones are more than willing to step in and do the job. Of course, this has nothing to do with Care Bears (anyone remembers that cute little cartoon with plenty of love going around?) despite boasting series of 7 uniformly colored headphones, but rather, it is a tribute to the rainbow of sorts, but you shouldn’t expect traditional rainbow colors as it comes in red, white, black, green, blue, purple and pink. All Coloud Colors headphones will also ship with a microphone remote that will play nice with a range of smartphones including the almighty iPhone, HTC devices as well as BlackBerrys among other handsets that rely on a 3.5mm standard plug. Of course, while this is nothing near Harman Kardon levels of audio quality nor will it bring your listening experience to a totally elevated level, at least it should sound better than what you get with your handset purchase, which probably costs a couple of bucks to manufacture anyways. The Coloud Colors headphones won’t put a dent in your pocket either with a suggested retail price of $45. Also known as the C22M model, it allows you answer incoming calls thanks to the aforementioned microphone/remote function, pausing whatever music that is being played at that moment. Just like Apple’s iPhone which was designed in California but manufactured in China, so the Coloud headphones are developed in Sweden and produced in China. Hopefully there won’t be any sort of performance related issues due to the country of manufacturing, and we hope that stringent quality controls are in place to boot.

The ElectroHub Wireless Charging Station

electro hub

We have reported on many supposedly wireless chargers before hoping that someday, we will all just lay down our mobile devices on charging pads and we’ll say good-bye to our charging cords forever. This is the ElectroHub, another wireless charging station to join the club, and is planned to make its shining debut at CES 2011. One thing that is promised to make the ElectroHub unique is that it occasionally doesn’t require the device to have a special case, but actually provides ElectroHub batteries, which come in both AA and AAA. That means that you can take any device that takes those aforementioned batteries, like a Wiimote, and swap it out for an ElectroHub one. As far as the devices with non-replaceable batteries, it does require a protective case that works as a converter to charge the device’s internal battery. I guess we aren’t to the Q1 case-less stage yet. The ElectroHub is slated to be on sale during the first quarter 2011, and should cost $39. There are other battery sets that can be purchased separately for about $10. Not too bad for an all-in-one.

Easy Doc Users Will Love the New Easy Dock Pro by Warpia

Ever heard of Warpia? Perhaps, or perhaps not. Regardless, this is definitely one company that is dedicated delivering single-chip wireless USB solutions to the masses, and they are certainly more than happy to announce the availability of the new and improved Easy Dock Pro. New and improved, eh? That basically means there is a predecessor to said peripheral (aptly named the Easy Dock), with the spanking new Easy Dock Pro enabling users to wirelessly connect to a notebook which in turn will be hooked up to your desktop monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers, or to your big-screen TV in HD quality. Unlike its predecessor, the Easy Dock, the Easy Dock Pro can display any online content in stunning HD quality. Playing nice with both Mac and PC platforms, it is also full well capable of supporting other monitors as well as displays of up to 25-inch in size with resolutions of 1920 × 1080 courtesy of a DVI or VGA connection. Bear in mind that the Easy Dock Pro might “mirror” your laptop screen, it will also be able to deliver the “extend mode” that lets you operate a couple of displays simultaneously, making it feel as though your TV was connected to your laptop. For those who love living out the wireless lifestyle, you would definitely appreciate the plug-and-play functionality of the Easy Dock Pro. You can pick it up from Amazon.com and on Warpia’s website for less than $150 a pop.

iPhone 4 Hefty Price Tag Compared to $188 Cost to Build

iphone 4 price

The whole world seems to be obsessed with how much things cost, and the same applies to the iPhone 4. For other countries where the smartphone is not available officially yet, folks who want first mover advantage to pick up an unlocked handset will have to fork out up to $1,000 for it, which is plain insanity. It gets worse after you realize that the iPhone 4 costs all of just $188 to build, sans marketing and promotion dollars of course.

A breakdown of the components point towards the Retina Display being the most expensive component within, as it is estimated to retail for $28.50. Bear in mind that this figure is based on the $199 16GB model with a two-year service contract in the US. As for the custom-built A4 processor, this Samsung-assembled piece of silicon is estimated to go for $10.75, while its gyroscope costs less than a burger at $2.60. What do you think of forking out much more money over a 2-year contract for something which is intrinsically worth less than a couple of Benjamins?

iPhone Users Can Now Make/Receive Skype to Skype Calls

Skype has finally brought to life a feature that many iPhone owners had wished for for a long, long time already – we’re talking about the iPhone being able to make 3G calls. Yes, this latest version of its application is available from the Apple App Store, where it enables iPhone users to make as well as receive Skype-to-Skype calls, not to mention to call mobiles and landlines worldwide without breaking the bank using nothing but their 3G data connection. Of course, a lot of the call quality depends on your signal strength as well as the amount of network congestion, but I’m sure that most of us won’t mind sacrificing a little bit of quality to save a whole lot of dollars, right? Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G will be available for free at the moment during its trial period, although that won’t be the case once 2011 rolls around. Of course, during this period, each call that you make will still be charged by operators accordingly. There will be more information on pricing in the coming months which will be in line with Skype’s commitment to provide customers with additional value. Skype-to-Skype calls over Wi-Fi, however, will still remain free, so you might want to stick to that option if you’re traveling to a city with plenty of Starbucks and McDonald’s outlets around. Among the new features of the Skype for iPhone application include : near CD-quality sound for Skype-to-Skype calls using wideband audio on iPhone 3GS or 2nd generation iPod touch and onwards; enhanced call quality indicator, which will help customers choose the best moment to call; improved start-up time; and rapid access to the dial pad from the home screen. As well, unlike previous iPhone apps that were restricted to iPhone 3 G users, the new version is compatible with the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch and iPad. We do wonder how the original iPhone owners are going to rock with it though, since it maxes out at EDGE connectivity. Check out more info at Skype.com.
