The Voice Controlled Mouse

Every day it seems there is a new gadget on the market to make our lives simpler, more convenient, and yes, faster. And even our computer use is being enhanced with gadgets to make using a computer even easier than it already is. This next one is the voice controlled mouse, and while it is still in the development stage, you may see this out sooner than you think as it is catching on quickly. It is the voice controlled mouse, and those of you that hate using the touch pad on your laptop will definitely appreciate this one. Gone will be the days when you will curse yourself for forgetting your mouse pad at home, when all you will need is the voice controlled mouse. This product is in development through a research team at the University of Washington and it is known as the voice controlled mouse or the vocal joystick.

Ideally, it is being designed for those with disabilities who will be able to use their computer through voice operated commands. The mouse will recognize standard commands such as ‘ah’ which will move the cursor to the northeast section of the computer screen, and ‘oh’ will send it to the southeast corner. If you will want more specific directions, you will use additional vowel sounds to move your cursor where you like. The voice controlled mouse is much simpler than you may imagine in terms of setup, as it comes with software that is connected to a microphone that will recognized the sounds needed for motion. And, as an added bonus, the developers at the University of Washington are also working on voice recognition technology that will come with robotic arms. No word when this will be out, but obviously, the development team will launch it as soon as they can.
