Repair your CDs and DVDs with Skip-Away

So what are you to do when your precocious 2-year old (or scorned lover) decides to open your DVD binder and dump your collection all over the floor, leaving them with heavy, unreadable scratches? Your best bet: do nothing. Well at least until Father’s Day, when VenMill Industries releases the Skip-Away, a stand-alone DVD/CD/HD DVD disc repair unit.

The Skip-Away utilizes VenMill’s OptoClear™ process to repair and clean any disc without wax filling or abrasive sanding. This process works by heating the disc while applying force to it. The disc becomes malleable and any scratches are smoothed out, leaving the disc like new. The Skip-Away, which comes in your choice of 8 colors, weighs in at 4.4 lbs and features a front load system with indicator lights and a count-down timer. A complete disc repair will take 3 minutes, while a cleaning (to clean up minor scratches) takes only 10 seconds.

At $250 plus the price of cartridges, the Skip-Away is a little pricy for casual users. Anyone with a large collection (or even a small collection of HD DVDs) may find the price quite reasonable. VenMill is also marketing this product to businesses, so if you don’t want to shell out $250, you may be able to find their services at your local video store. Replacement cartridges cost $19.99 for a 50 repair and/or 150 cleaning cartridge and $49.99 for a 150 repair and/or 400 cleaning cartridge.
